I'm a person who cares almost nothing for American history. I learned it when I had to in school and promptly moved it to the back of my mind. When asked by my White friends why I seem to care nothing for American history, I respond that it's because, upon getting older and reading different accounts, I've been lied to. There are so many lies in this culture. I am then admonished because I don't want to learn 'our' history. However, I notice that, as long as it's been since i've studied American history, I still know more about it than most White people know about African American history. So...my question is why is it alright for Black people to know everyone else's history, but, strangely, not too many know much of anything about ours?
