J-AlvaradoParticipantRoland Fryer and Stephen D. Levitt have written a paper called 'The Causes and Consequences of Distinctively Black Names.' Their paper seems to indicate the most likely explanation is the so-called 'identity-model;' those parents who give their child a distinctively black name view the act as conferring a benefit while giving a white name is viewed as having a social cost.
