Why is the media trying so hard to turn gymnast Shawn Johnson into America's sweetheart when her teammate (and gold medal winner in the all around) Nastia Luiken is clearly the superior gymnast? Is it because Luiken's parents were Soviet gymnasts before immigrating? Luiken's balletic style is obviously playing better with the international judges than Johnson's tank-like athleticism. How about we let the American public decide who our sweetheart will be? I, for one, prefer Luiken's nuanced performances and get frustrated every time I read that someone has "stolen" a medal from Johnson. Nothing against Shawn Johnson, but it's the Olympics, nobody's a sure thing until the judges have spoken.
