Catholics and Orthodox Christians believe that the Eucharist becomes the body and blood of Christ through tran-substantiation. Mass/Divine Liturgy isn't a reenactment of the Last Supper, but an ongoing continuation of it, the moment where Eternity intersects with the time stream. It is the transformation of the bread and wine and subsequent reception of the Host that unites Christians with Christ and all believers, past, present and future.
