It seems as if a woman is blond, she is automatically beautiful. I have heard white males describe a 'hot chick' as follows: 'I saw this girl, man she was beautiful - you know, blond...' Then others would nod in agreement as if no further explanation was necessary. Can someone please explain this?

Nah not true at all. Depends on the guy. Myself and many of my friends are all attraced to brunettes. I wont even date blonds. I dont find them attractive whatsoever. The most beautiful women in the world are dark haired hands down.

Actually, its simpler than you think. This is just the White 'standard of beauty.' Generally, as far as I can tell ( i may be wrong) it goes (in decending order): Blond Red-haired Brown or Black-haired Asian Indian (east indian, not Native American) Black Now, there are Whites that may not have this specific preference. But generally, thats it. Now, if you could discuss this with someone of a different 'race' that hadn't been exposed to too much 'White' influence, and had their standard of beauty corruptedd, it would probably be different. After all, YOU don't seem to think that White and Blond is the pinnacle of attractiveness. But you aren't White either. And how many Black people (men or women) can you think of that look good if they dye their hair blond. I've seen 2 Black women that could pull it off. And Serena Williams is NOT one of them.

I know what you're talking about. I hear it with people I know. It's usually followed by 'blue eyes...' Some would say that it's a common stereotype to assume that blonde equals beautiful. But this only seems to be the case in the U.S. as far as I can see. Maybe it's because of media stereotype. I remember seeing a statistic on C.N.N. not too long ago that said the number of natural blondes has been steadily decreasing over the past number of years. Most blondes we see now are 'bottled blondes'. So theoretically, you could make the arguement that more 'beautiful' people are blonde because these people are the ones who spend the most time on their looks. Personally, I like to look at the whole package when it comes to beauty. Both physical beauty and inner beauty. A person who is good looking physically can lose their appeal very quickly by opening their mouth and showing how much of an ignorant a-hole they are. But more specifically to your question, I think it has to do with stereotypes. Redheads are stereotyped as being sexually agressive and quick to anger. If we've learned anything from this site, it's that stereotypes are usually groundless. Besides, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I think it could have something to do with Barbie, Marilyn Monroe, and Hugh Hefner. This is why many women dye their hair. For example, take any blond, picture her with darker hair, and image if she would be better/worse looking. If a woman only looks better as a blond, she may not really be all that good looking. A good example of this experiment is Britney Spears and Christina Aquelera (sp?).

White men already have an image in their mind when 'blonde' is mentioned (tall, long-legged,busty woman with blue eyes). Other women seem to require more information or a photo. I could care less, I'm not attracted to them. Besides, they are a dime a dozen in Germany

I think when white men are together talking about 'hot chicks,' a mental picture is needed. Saying 'Blonde' automatically produces an image.of a busty woman with long yellow hair and crystal blue eyes. It becomes a 'say no more, we know what you are talking about' type of thing. White men have to go into more detail when talking about other women, though.

I think its an issue of scarcity. I'm from Europe and there is an abundance of blonde, blue eyed women - so they're nothing special. But here in the US there aren't as many so - maybe -they are more in demand. I'm a blonde-haired, blue-eyed female and I'm astounded at the amount of attention (most of it unwanted) I get from guys here in the USA. Guys (especially black and hispanic guys) seem to be fascinated by blue eyes. I had a hispanic boyfriend and everytime he looked at me he would comment on the blue eyes. It is SOOOO weird coz for me its no big deal and I'm not attracted to blonde, blue-eyed men (except of course, Brad Pitt) Also, if you think about it, light hair and light eyes are popular amongst African American and Hispanics too. Its like everyone wants light hair and light eyes. I imagine its the novelty factor.

Basically, you just repeated my question and confirmed my statement that Blondes are automatically ASSUMED to be beautiful. Perhaps this explains why so many White Women dye their hair blonde-even when it doesn't suit them...

I guess a lot of white males just go for the typical blonde look, although they may appreciate other looks. I don't really know any black guys who say white chicks are hot; they usually like black girls. I guess it's a matter of taste.

My hair is blond, and I can assure you no guy ever described me to his friends as a 'hot chick.' The only thing I can think of is that a guy would only remember a woman's hair was blond if it was highlighted. And if she's highlighting her hair, she's probably doing other things to her appearance -- wearing heels, wearing makeup, dressing sexy. So maybe in that case 'blond' is shorthand for overall grooming. I read a study once that said men prefer brown hair overall. I believe it, because blond hair either looks lank from not doing enough to it or dry and brittle from doing too much.

I'm white, but blond hair doesn't really do anything for me. However, I think in the case you describe, the man is talking about the stereotypical blond 'cheerleader' type. Cameron Diaz is a pretty good example. The man is mentioning her blond hair, but it sounds like he's trying to conjure up other aspects of her figure (and possibly personality) with that statement.

I think it comes from media stereotypes of the 'Barbie doll' look being presented as the model of attractiveness for a white woman and the way many '50s Hollywood stars with artificially blond hair were hailed as beautiful. However, I'm not sure blond is always considered beautiful - as a teen I had a skinny blond friend with acne and men would give her wolf whistles when they saw her from behind, then grimace when she turned round.

Apparently preference for blondes goes back as far as the Romans and Celts, probably further. But I think a lot of it today has to do with media stereotyping of girls who look like Barbie as the image of beauty.

Sorry, white folks, but some of the most beautiful, classy-looking women, past and present, have been and are brunettes. Think Liz Taylor and Ava Gardner, for example - breathtakingly beautiful women who oozed class and style. Now compare them to Pamela Anderson and the wannabees. Blondes may have more fun, but brunettes are more beautiful.
