Steve27616ParticipantMaybe for the same reasons anybody else moves from the frozen wastelands to the balmy South: jobs, climate, less taxes, no Kennedys. Having been born and raised in Ohio but having spent my adult life in Texas, I haven’t noticed a lot of difference in how the whites I associate with talk about or treat minorities. I heard just as many ‘off color’ remarks and ran into just as many ignorant racists in Ohio as I do in Texas. In the South, the historical effects of racism are undeniable, but I have noticed more willingness to deal openly with it than in the North, where they pretend it never existed.
