I believe Muslims also do not eat pork as the meat is considered ‘unclean’ due to how pigs as animals were once viewed, ie wallowing in mud and eating pretty much anything that came their way. Due to the scrounging nature of a pig (they root around in dirt for food and such in nature) they often would get worms which could be passed to humans when they ate the meat. However that is not the case anymore, as in the U.S. most countries have hog farms that feed the pigs grain rather than letting them scrounge for food which usually prevents the pig from contracting any type of disease or parasite found in the ground. However religious doctrines in some religions still forbid the eating of pork so those edicts are adhered to by followers of that religion.

Who’s to say that ‘Christ’ is the one we should all be following. Diversity is a part of life and religious beliefs will always be diverse. Each of us is given the ability to make up our own minds, originally there was but one church but that lead to corruption (this is speaking strictly in terms of the christian church) while the main church remained (the roman catholic church) the protestants split off and from their the churches became even more diverse due to disagreements on interpretations of doctrine. Religion is not ‘necessary’ but people find it a comfort when they seek answers to questions or when they feel alone in the world (at least in my opinion).
