Blacks have lived in America nearly 400 years, and for 360 of those – at least – we were not part of the community. Slavery built a tradition of silent rebellion as well as open rebellion. During slavery, caring for the community produced no tangible benefits. It would not increase your personal wealth or well-being. It only aided your oppressor. I believe these psychological survival skills run deep in the black community. Once again, this is a tendency perhaps, not an ultimate reality. I live in an intergrated community, and the white teenagers are the most disruptive and disrespectful.
