Is there any black women out there who have made a conscious decision to going natural? And if so why? How was your personal decision to ridding yourselves of the harsh, destroying, chemicals being taken by others especially by your bosses and coworkers in the workplace? The reason I asked is because I had an assistant manager named Robert who blantantly asked if ‘I HAD HEAD LICE?’ beause I wore my hair in braids right in the presence of others. Let me remind you people this guy was a complete ASSHOLE and everyone hated him. I finally took the braids out and wore my hair loose. Robert who is Caucasion, even had the nerve to asked if the reason I took the braids out was ‘BECAUSE I GOT TIRED OF MY HEAD ITCHING?’ I was so pissed, in which I replied contrary to what you may believe having your hair braided doesn’t mean your hair is filthy, foul-smelling, or neglected. This same manager even told me that if I ‘EVER’ decided to get my hair done that I should get a hair weave suggesting that because I am a black female that I ‘CANNOT GROW AND OWN MY OWN HAIR’. In which I replied that I am capable of growing my hair long because as long as you’re living and breathing your hair never stops growing. I had another supervisor named James who is like myself an African-American had the nerve to say to ask when ‘AM I GONG TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT MY HAIR?’ in which Robert said ‘SHE’S JUST GOING BACK TO HER ROOTS.’ in a bitter and hostile tone as they both laughed hysterically after coming up and saying that right to my face. I was so stunned, and it is was a verbal slap in the face. The reason James said what he said was because he wanted to prove to Robert that deep down I am ghetto because I’m a black female, supposedly bringing up a very touchy subject by provoking me and getting an reaction of out me so that the ‘ghettoness’ will come out of me. A few days later I was terminated. I believed Robert and James conspired against me because I was seen as troublesome and ‘rocking the boat’. To me James is a sorry excuse as a black man because not did act professionally as a manager but he failed to defend and protect his Nubian sisters but perpetuating the ‘ghetto’ stereotype. My grandmother and I are considering pursuing legal action. Please Nubian brothers and sisters share your outrage.
