I drive about 100 to 150 miles a day in Southern California, and I have noticed something: Many Asian women wear gloves as they drive. The gloves don’t appear to be driving gloves, but rather, they appear to be white and somewhat elegant. I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this, and if someone can explain why it’s done.

This is common all over Southeast Asia to prevent callouses from forming and perhaps to protect from tanning in the sun, which makes hands hard and dry and rough – and unfeminine.

Yes, I drive from La to Orange county everyday and I see asian women with White Gloves as well. i also sometimes see some with doctor type masks covering their nose and mouths. I dont know why? Some think it might be the SARS?
