I have seen racism in America and know it to be real. However, to me as a white person, it seems African Americans use racism as an excuse for even the most personal of failures (ie Black on Black crime, academic performance condemned as “acting white,” 70% illegitimacy rate, etc). I watch Travis Smiley’s BET Tonight occasionally, and I have always felt the show should be subtitled “Look what white people made us do now.” I, and I think whites in general, would be more open to seeing where African American’s are victimized, if I heard African American’s accept some responsibility for their current problems, rather than immediately blaming whites. Are there any problems that African Americans as a group accept responsibility for?
