I am preparing for retirement and want to mentor disadvantaged boys entering their teen years in Franklin county: I expect that many will be black (I am white). Both black and white will come from low income families- many from families who see no value in education. I plan to ask school counselors and churches about boys who might be interested, but I want to know how to work with families who don’t understand the need for education and integration in their sons’ futures, or worse, want to keep their boys away from some white man’s agenda.
