W.J.F.MemberMy wife and I made a surprise visit on my baby daughter, who lives in New York. We noticed this woman there who appears to be lesbian and also noticed things that suggested my daughter and this woman might be sexual partners. How do I ask my baby girl, Are you gay?

Emma25376ParticipantThere’s only one way to find out – just ask her! Be respectful and relaxed about it (or at least act relaxed). Tell her what you told us: That you noticed signs she might have a female partner, and you were wondering if that was the case. Most likely she’ll be relieved to not have to bring it up herself, or at worst, she’ll be incredulous that you ever thought such a thing about her. But I wish my parents had asked me. It would have saved all of us some heartache.

ChadMemberLets also not forget that your daughter’s roommate’s sexual orientation does not have to be the same as that of your daughter. Keep in mind that a person does not have to be homosexual to live with a lesbian.
