J30552ParticipantWhat do people think of men who wear makeup? Not over-the-top ‘glam’ makeup, just regular makeup. Men, why do you use it? Do you feel weird doing so? How many men do this?

NanParticipantI once dated a man who wore makeup. Not ‘girly’ makeup. Just to cover the blemishes and accentuate the features. I didn’t think he was less masculine or homosexual or anything. He used makeup for the same reason I do: to look his best, and he did!

Ron-S29631ParticipantI am a man who has never worn makeup. If I have ever known a man who wore makeup, he must have been pretty good at it, because I could not tell. I believe men who regularly wear makeup should see a psychiatrist. I have no idea how many men wear makeup or what their reasons are for doing so. Perhaps, just perhaps, certain men can be excused for wearing makeup – they would be people such as actors, rodeo clowns and bank robbers.

Jenn31007ParticipantIf you feel that a man who wears make-up all the time needs to see a therapist, what about women who wear make-up all the time? Personally, I don’t understand why women are expected to wear make-up, it is even part of many companies dress codes, and men are not. Why not all go natural or all ‘look our best’? I feel my best when I am not wearing any make-up at all and get complimented on my skin or smile.

DominicParticipantMakeup can do wonders for men, but most men deeply fear anything that even remotely calls into question their masculinity. They would rather go out in public with ugly dark circles under their eyes and have sickly-looking blemished skin than use a little cosmetics. Every man wants to look healthy and attractive. Just because makeup is marketed towards women, doesn’t mean that using it can make you less of a man.

SKParticipantAnything that makes someone look and feel better about themselves is wonderful. This is coming from a girl who almost never wears makeup. I don’t need it to feel confident, but if it helps, regardless of your gender, I think it’s great. In addition to hiding blemishes or downplaying features you don’t like, something simple (and not too noticeable) like a coat of mascara could really drastically change your look. Additionally, I’m a straight female who finds a guy in makeup extremely attractive. Not too over the top, just enough to be noticeable, like some eyeliner. I know I’m not alone in this, almost all of my female friends go nuts over guys in eyeliner. Perhaps that is an added bonus to being a makeup-wearing guy.

RachaelMemberI have a few male friends who wear makeup. I think that if that is what they want to do it’s cool. Besides, I kind’ve like a man in eyeliner. It’s hot if worn right.

MattParticipantI confess I used to wear eye-liner when I went clubbing in L.A. during the ’80s. Why? Who knows? The ’80s were a wacky time. Anyway, it’s not something I’m particularly proud of and I haven’t worn any type of makeup since. Now I’m just a normal soap-and-water and off I go kinda guy. I don’t know why any man would wear makeup nowadays. We aren’t under the same societal pressures to hide flaws the way women are. As I type this, I have a zit on my cheek for all to see. That’s life! Anyway, to answer your question: male makeup as a daily grooming ritual seems strange to me.

WynMemberHonestly, I think it’s kind of sexy. A girl can relate to wanting to look as beautiful as you can, and it’s nice to know some guys care about their appearance. I see no reason why cosmetics should be considered “female only”. Most people probably don’t realize it, but men on TV (news anchors in particular) wear makeup. Men have been wearing cosmetics for some time.

JeramiahParticipantIf a guy wants to wear makeup to feel better about himself, he should. I wear a bit to cover blemishes and don’t feel weird about it at all. The majority of people who have a problem with it seem to be straight males. It’s hypocritical, considering the same people often expect women to be wearing it all the time.

LouiseParticipantThe whole makeup industry is aimed at girls and women. If they changed their view on who or who not should wear it, then more men would. And I have to agree with a previous poster, eyeliner on some men looks real hot (if worn right, of course).

JustinParticipantIf guys wear make-up and go over-the-top glam; i think that’s kind of neat because it’s essentially the same thing as a mask. And of course, there’s always the need to cover up some kind of blemish…

Cara25604ParticipantI dont believe in men wearing makeup. The only way that I can see a guy wearing makeup is to cover up bad acne or scars. I think it is ok for a man to do that, but if they start wearing eyeliner or any kind of eye makeup, thats going a bit to far. I would not be attractive to a guy if they did that….i would personally think he was kind of weird.

GregN.MemberSeeing as how Nebraska is a fairly conservative place (I’m not, though), the only men that I’ve ever seen wearing makeup are gay men. That being said, I have had makeup on once. I was in theatre in high school, and I attended an international theatre convention. At one of the workshops, I volunteered to have half of my face done up in makeup (not stage makeup, but the everyday stuff). I must say that I looked pretty damn good with it on. I’d consider myself average to above average in looks, but the makeup made me look like a super model. I could understand some men doing it for that reason, but I would never do it because: (1) It would take way to much time and money, and (2) I would feel awkward wearing it.
