Why do some Mexicans like to lower their cars?

Mexicans aren’t the only people into altering the appearance of motor vehicles. Have you never seen a hot rod or oldies-but-goodies? What about those souped-up muscle cars?

Chicanos claimed ‘low riding’ as an art form many years ago. It requires lots of time, money, electrical and mechanical knowledge and artistic vision. Take a moment to look at the mini-murals the vehicles are embellished with: True works of art that usually are dedicated to religion or a loved one. A lot of pride is taken in the final products, hence the slow driving to better display their vehicles.

P.S. I know ‘low riders’ who are Latino, African American, First Nation, Filipino – even Caucasian. Imagine that!

I think it’s for the same reason some Americans like to raise there cars (back end) and four-wheel drive trucks: To the driver, it’s cool.

Remember, the term “Mexican” is the same as the term “American” – it is not a race, but describes people who live in Mexico. People in Mexico and people of Hispanic descent in America are mixed Spanish, Indian, black and white.

I’m an exchange student from Mexico staying in the United States. One thing I noticed was that Mexicans (living in Mexico) do not have these low cars, only Latinos and Chicanos living in the United States have these types of cars. You can go to Mexico and never find a low car like the ones you see very often in the United States.

Mexicans do not tend to lower their cars. It’s the people of Latino descent in the United States who do. I live at the border, and I’ve seen that this happens on the U.S. side, and with a few people inside the Mexican border. But in Mexico as a country, you’ll never find cars like that.

Why does it matter that Mexicans lower their cars? It’s not harming anyone around, so why even ask that dumb question? It’s a style that they like and it’s not only Mexicans who do it. Don’t you have a style in clothing? Well, why do you chose that style? Because it’s you!
