When I watch shows, such as real life crime shows, I hear things like "he is Mexican" by witnesses, to describe a suspect that appears to be Hispanic. Also, I once was asked the ethnicity of a person on T.V., and I said "she is half white, half Mexican". The other person thought that I just meant Hispanic in general, not of actual Mexican heritage. I did actually mean the country of Mexico. It bothers me when people just say "Mexican" and don't know for sure. Is it considered derogatory though?
