David25906ParticipantI live in a neighborhood that is half white and half black. I’ve noticed a lack of consideration for others, or society at large, by my black neighbors. This is evident by loud music from cars and excessive littering when walking down the street. Is this because my neighbors are rebelling against society at large because they are a minority?

BW-ScottParticipantBlacks have lived in America nearly 400 years, and for 360 of those – at least – we were not part of the community. Slavery built a tradition of silent rebellion as well as open rebellion. During slavery, caring for the community produced no tangible benefits. It would not increase your personal wealth or well-being. It only aided your oppressor. I believe these psychological survival skills run deep in the black community. Once again, this is a tendency perhaps, not an ultimate reality. I live in an intergrated community, and the white teenagers are the most disruptive and disrespectful.
