Critism of Isreal is not punishable by law in America or Europe. Some European countries have blasphemy laws that restrict critism of all religions. These laws have been used in several recent high-profile cases to prosecute people who insulted Islam. And while I don't really know what your idea of a mature discussion is, there has been a lot of talk about the East-West conflict. It's reflected quite a wide variety of opinion, even people who blame America for 9/11 have had their say.
