You’re absolutely right: it is a shame that white women discount Asian men so easily. I agree, though, that the main reason for it is most likely the media. Having grown up in a very ‘white’ world, the only Asian men I saw were the few depicted on TV, and usually that was as a goof, nerd or ‘the enemy’ in some war flick. Not a great representation, right? Well, fortunately that did not leave a lasting impression on me as I got older. As an adult I started finding Asian men attractive – starting with my first crush, Jackie Chan. Then I moved to Los Angeles, and the stereotypes I had grown up with were shattered. I met and fell in love with a wonderful Asian man who I eventually married. On the bright side, I think the media and even Hollywood have been changing over the years and are not as cruel to Asian men’s identities. Hopefully that will continue, and Asian men will get the positive attention they deserve.
