I used to have lunch with a guy from Kenya who lambasted me for referring to him as ‘black’ once. He said ‘I’m not black, I’m not African, and I’m not really a Kenyan, either, but I can live with it. I do not choose to identify with your blacks — I am not like them at all, despite my skin color, and I do not like to be like them.’ The majority of dark-skinned foreigners (who often pass for the mulatto that we call black here) who have been in the US more than about 2 weeks don’t want anything to do with the insanity and degredation that passes for living in ‘the black community.’ Many of them are from highly literate, old cultures that emphasize hard work, success, and stability and they don’t see that in black Americans. We’ve seen that on the ground extensively in Minnesota with Somali immigrants. They want *NOTHING* to do with our local black citizenry.
