So many White people are raised to be colorblind? First, let me school you on the term colorblind. I personally find it offensive, especially coming from White people. I am Black. Do not ignore that. Instead, respect my blackness; embrace it, because to embrace me means to embrace my African ancestry. Tell tell me you are colorblind demonstrates to me your refusal to recognize the trials, tribulations and triumphs of those of African descent. African American people should NOT be fooled by the ‘I’m colorblind’ rhetoric. When dealing with White people, I don’t look past their ‘whiteness’, because it is as much a part of him/her as hair color, eye color and overall character. Lastly, what you must have meant to say is that White people are raised to be non-racist, which is the biggest I’ve heard regarding race relations. If this was true, Amadu Diallo would still be alive, Abner Louima would still have a spleen, and cemetaries across the U.S. wouldn’t be full of the remains of African American people, who were slaughtered for one reason and one reason only: the color of their skin.
