Yeah, I never thought this person was in the norm at all; no one is THAT much of a jerk. In my original statement to Y? I stated that, judging by lack of diplomacy, this was likely an individual being obnoxious. This part of my entry was deleted, however, for reasons of rhetorical efficiency, I suppose. My question was merely pointed to whether the mere act of eating like this had any cultural link, or perhaps even an ethnic one. Some folks, often more by the factors of their location rather than ethnic lines, have understandings, particularly around the table, that are perfectly natural to them but might be strange or even shocking to guests, or roommates.
