Taylor
I am an 18 year old college student, and my boyfriend is a rastafarian with dreadlocks. Before meeting him, as well as his friends, who are also into rasta, I never really saw that type of hairstyle as having much meaning. I thought it was simply a statement to be different. After meeting him, I learned so much about the meaning of his hairstyle as well as the meaning of many rasta ideas and practices. In my opinion, the dreadlocks don’t necessarily have a political undertone. Not all rastas have dreads and not all people with dreads are rasta. Rastafarians do have their own way of thinking and believing, but the prejudices put upon them based on their looks is immoral and sad. The dreadlocks have meaning in that the only way to get rid of them is to shave your head, so therefore rastas are believing in something.
