I agree with a lot of what you’re saying, though it’s more like 140 years. I’ve always said that I believe bias exists on all sides to some degree, but I also believe some people use it as a cop-out. Some people say that we can’t ignore history, and truthfully, we don’t. We can’t because we’re taught history in school, and therefore, people are well-aware of it. I personally try not to let my judgment be clouded by biases, but come on, I cannot be held responsible for what happened before my birth, so why should I be held responsible for it in the eyes of certain people? I’m not trying to sound ignorant. I am not a racist, and I am against discrimination, but quite simply, I don’t think people deserve special treatment for the evil tragedies endured by their ancestors, because what happened 140 years ago is not my fault, because it is not the fault of anyone alive today.
