I spent last summer is South Korea. One of the interesting things I noticed is young women (age 2-30) holding hands in public. It was so common that it was unusual to see two women together but not holding hands. They tell me it’s just a normal platonic friendship. I suspect that, in part, it derives from school groups pairing kids by holding hands so as not to get lost…but that’s just my guess
