I just found this site and I know this thread is probably old now, but I had to respond. I, too, have a hard time socially with black women because I am light-skinned. I find that they are less open toward me than they are with darker-skinned women. I notice this on the job especially. It’s like they consider you somehow suspect until proven otherwise. When I was young, I would do or say something to emphasize the blackness. Now, I don’t do anything. I figure if they are that judgmental and hostile, then I don’t want to know them. I’ve found that the friendships I’ve had with black women who are also light don’t seem to have that strain. That’s not to say this is always true; cattiness comes in all hues.
