Here in Holland, the legal age for drinking beer is 16, for stronger alcohol 18. The use of soft drugs is more or less legal here as well, but you’re only allowed to buy them until you’re 18 as well. You aren’t allowed to drive a car until you are 18, and you can’t buy tobacco if you’re under 16. You’re considered an adult by the law if you’re 18, and your parents aren’t financially responsible anymore when you’re 21. It is true that we in Holland accept sexuality in the media more than in America. Parents talk freely to their children about sexuality. You can for instance buy a playboy or any other nude magazine here in the local bookstore. There are a lot of television programs on the subject as well. We don’t have any problems with nude breasts in the media either (for example with bath products). Prostitution is since 1999 (or was it 1998?) also an official profession, and the prostitutes even have to pay income tax. I hope this clears things up a bit for you.
