The real strength needed in riding or racing is in your back, hips, butt, and legs….balance and good hands and very good, but not brute strength, in your upper body is also required. Juile Krone and many other women have had/have successful racing careers, particularly in the last 15 years. But racetracks are tough, volatile, dangerous places, not many people women or men can live that life, and as a result many many small men from tough, developing countries who really need work, and don’t mind hard conditions fill the ranks of jockeys, as opposed to small women from the more developed nations ( women from poorer countries…I don’t knwo of NAY who’ve gone into racing, either as grooms, exercise riders, or jockeys). From my perspective it’s the hard, dangerous atmosphere that is repellant to women, not the physical labor.
