Your age is not specified, but I can assume you are pretty young. You say there was no such thing as being gay in the 1930’s. This is simply not true. Evidence shows that there were homosexuals as far back as ancient Egypt. I am quite sure that homosexuality did not disappear for a few thousand years and then just pop up again. Homosexuality was not as ‘accepted’ then as it is now which is why it seems as if it is a new phenomenon. Aside from the pornography industry, I don’t think I have ever heard of anybody having hundreds of partners in one night…gay or straight. Yes, gay men and women may have many partners throughout a lifetime, but the last time I checked, straight people do the same thing. And gays/lesbians by no means discovered AIDS nor are they the main reason HIV/AIDS is so prevalant in the world today. If you look at many of the African cultures where they believe in female circumsision, you will find the highest concentration of AIDS cases. True, gay marriage and homosexuality may be appaling TO YOU. But in the end, this issue comes down to one thing….EQUALITY. If you could prove to me with concrete evidence that homosexuality affects your life and how you live it, I could understand your concerns. However, I have heard nothing of the sort from you or anyone else. It frightens me that we are beginning to forget our past. Remember the Civil Rights Movement of the 60’s and the Holocaust of the 30’s and 40’s. Blacks and Jews were persecuted for being who they are…and the sole fact that they are Black or Jewish has no effect on society. They are human, just as homosexuals are human. They cannot help who they are. Do you think they wake up one morning and decide that they want to be ridiculed and discriminated against? I would tend to think not.
