I agree with your assetion about secretaries. Good ones, and senior ones, really are the heartbeat of the office. They know (and control almost everyone’s schedules) are aware of the activities of senior leadership and management and can be the unoffical (or offical) interface with the workforce. Everyone’s job has some bearing on the success of any company. I would argue that the value of the individual is equal, but the impact of jobs on the viability of the company is different. While the cleaning lady’s job is important, the scale of impact on the company is less than the CEO. She’s no less valuable as a person, but her job won’t make or break a company if done poorly as quickly as the CEO, CFO, or executive secretary, lead programmer for example
