That’s what a little kid says, ‘Just because!’ What the original poster was asking was why do so many people want this kind of forced phony sign of assimilation agains us. No one pressures people from England or France to drop their accents when they come over here. They find those accents ‘sophisticated’ or ‘charming.’ It’s just dark skinned people they find accents threatening on. And yes, there ARE Asian accents that many Asians speak with, including my Filipina wife. And when people give her grief over her accent, we tell them to go to f*** themselves. I saw that same kind of BS being directed at my mother when I was growing up, there’s no way I’ll stand for it aimed at my wife or kids. This kind of veiled racism or teaching people to be ashamed of who they are should end.
