Tracie, get this through your head. SLAVERY is OVER. White people don’t GET to TELL African American people what we can and cannot call ourselves. I am an African American…A Black Woman of African descent, born in America. I will NOT deny my African heritage, any more than I will deny my American heritage. If the fact that Black Americans CHOOSE to embrace their African heritage makes white people uncomfortable, oh well, that’s just too bad. What NERVE to tell a group of people what we should or should not call ourselves. You call yourself whatever the hell you’d like (I can certainly think of a few choice names to call you); I will continue to identify myself as I always have…a PROUD, card carrying AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMAN. Now unless you can produce papers proving ownership of me, or anyone of my Black brothers or sisters, what we call ourselves is NONE OF YOUR DAMNED BUSINESS.
