There are several significant differences between Catholics and Protestants, most of which address the nature and number of the holy sacraments, but the most significant difference, in my opinion, is the nature of the relationship with God. Protestant religions generally believe in the ‘priesthood of the believer.’ This means that no intermediary is necessary between a believer and God. In the Catholic Church, the Pope is Christ on Earth, a priest can forgive sins and you can pray to a saint for intercession on behalf of your prayer. In Protestant faiths, the Church isn’t even really necessary, although it is of course preferred for the instruction and fellowship of believers. But we pray only to God, and have no intermediaries.
