I am the opposite: I am a white female who was raised in a family where I was expected to interact with minorities in an American setting–AND RESPECT THE CULTURAL SETTING! While I do not speak Japanese, I DO KNOW HOW TO COOK JAPANESE ENTREES, MAINTAIN BONSAI PLANTS (A HOBBY), DO IKKEBANA, AND SUMI-I ART! I enjoy zen-sitting, consider Zen meditation to be a part of my life, even though I was raised in the Christian tradition, and apply en principles to my life–I drily point out that I am more relaxed,etc BECAUSE I bother to practice zen!
