In J. Wallace’s message, she said that African Americans pick names that will make their children ‘stand out’. Why would a person want to choose a name like ShaQuanda or Shanderica for a child? Why is it that a person can look in a newspaper and pick out all of the Black names because they are so outlandish? I understand that a person may want to be unique, but I think that this is nothing more than a hinderance on our children. While these names may sound cute when a child is young, what will it sound like when ShaQuanda is Dr. Shaquanda and her nameplate read Dr. ShaQuanda Alize LaKeisha Jenkins?
