Apparently I need to move to Rhode Island, where black women make more than white women!! In every job I have had here in Chicago, white women with considerably less education and experience were hired at considerably higher salary than mine, and were given raises at a faster rate! I couldn’t even get in the door for an interview without a Master’s degree, yet I’ve seen a number of new hires come in since, with Bachelor’s or Associate’s degrees – and they make much more ($10,000-$20,000 more) than I do. Whenever I bring this up, it’s the tired song and dance ‘it’s not in the budget’, ‘it’s political’, etc. I wish effort were solely the key – then I would be paid more than these white women around me! The racism argument fails?!?! – show me where it fails here!!!!
