The habit of pulling the hat low over the eyes is not unique to security guards. If you look at a military honor guardsman, you’ll notice they do the same thing with the service cap. In my branch (Air Force) you have to be at least 5’8′ to join the honor guard, so there’s a selective tendency towards larger and more intimidating individuals for this role. This is not done to appear menacing so much as disciplined. Also, by forcing you to ‘keep your chin up’ to see properly, it ensures better posture.
