The U.S. is actually horrible when it comes to the idea of a ‘melting pot’. I read somewhere in Newsweek that Americans stress their differences much more than other countries. Has anyone ever heard of a ‘African-Frenchman’ or a ‘Asian-Canadian’? Nope, because in those countries the people are French or Canadian. How or why they live there is no longer a prime issue, but the fact that they reside there is what becomes important. I think I would either laugh or spit at someone who reffered to me as a ‘Immigrant-American’, or ‘Jewish-American’ or ‘Romanian-American’. None of those truly describe me.
