But if it’s seen as ‘formal,’ why do they use the more IN-formal first name? I could understand your argument if they said ‘Miss Anderson’ or ‘Miss Dawson,’ etc, but like the original questioner, I also find it odd that ‘Miss Debbie’ would be considered appropriate for a woman who is neither a young miss nor an older ‘Miss-uz’
