Whites do have their own channels! They’re called ABC, NBC, CBS. I’m being facetious, but look, being black is also associated with ethnicity and a culture, especially in the case of BET, which is celebrating African-American culture. So it’s not just race, per say. The same with the Latinos. If miniorities want something from their point of view they aren’t going to find that in the dominant culture which is coming from a white-american point of view. Anyway whites do celebrate their heritage, don’t they? There are Italian american, irish american, jewish organizations. There is an Italian channel on television, RAI I think it’s called. So nobody is stopping whites from recognizing and celebrating who they are. Whites do it all the time. The problem would come in if there was WET (White Entertainment Television) because ‘white power’ is associated with the Klan and the neo-nazi movements. They are strictly talking about the white race and it being superior. BET has no such rhetoric. Nobody comes on BET and say this is black entertainment TV and we’re better than everybody. Let’s get ‘whitey’. It’s simply a channel blacks can turn to to see their unique point of view on things. Nobody would think it was racist if their was an Irish-American channel. Actually I think that would be cool. I can see it now: riverdancing, celtic language classes, irish-themed movies like Michael Collins….
