Many Asians are brought up to conform and/or to please their family – at least, not to ‘rock the boat.’ Generally Asians less than 2 generations into the US are uncomfortable with doing things differently. (And, as you’ve seen, those who are not American born.) Also, the ‘right’ choice throughout their lives is made by their parents or grandparents more often than not. They’re not comfortable with what’s right for THEM, rather – what would make their families happy.
