I have to disagree with Rachel about the gay ‘drawl’ being the product of gay culture. Perhaps it is to an extent, but I have known gay guys who talked that way from an early age before they even knew they were gay and before they ever even met any other gay men. In fact, I wouldn’t describe it as a drawl or accent. Rather, it’s more like a feminine-sounding lilt. I do believe most gay men have it, but not all. I think it might have to do with the fact that the majority of gay men are born that way, whereas the majority of lesbians choose to be so. There are studies that seem to indicate this is true.
