Well, as a man I mostly prefer quiet. However, when looking at a tool, vehicle, etc I appreciate the appearance of ‘power’. Instead of having a colored throat to flash, or a large rack of horns, or a beautiful plumage… we tend to want to express ourselves by using things that get noticed. Loud trucks, loud tools, loud electronics … all part of ‘see the power that I command – acknowledge and submit’ that runs in the background of male – male interactions.
