Since our IQs are not tattooed on our foreheads, no one knows if a person is intelligent or not no matter where a person is working. People tend to react to, or treat, another person in a way they perceive that person would understand. Body language, dress and grooming play big parts in how others will judge a person. A well suited, groomed and mannered person working in any job will automatically command respect just from his appearance, and in contrast, a sloppily dressed, wild haired, wildly made up person will be treated differently because it is a natural assumption that this person is not really intelligent or else he would look better in public.
