I’m from Vancouver, and a very large portion of the population here is Asian. Growing up in the suburbs (where it was a lot more racist) I often heard about Asian restaurants using cat meat but never really believed it, and when I grew older and made many Asian friends I learned that yes, it most likely a racist myth. But definitely more importantly, it’s SO TRUE that every culture has their weird delicacy. Many people I’ve met who have immigrated here thought stuff even as common as peanut butter were weird and disgusting, and I’m sure there are other things people eat here that are wayyy grosser that I can’t think of at the moment. Spray cheese? Deep-fried mars bars? It’s all about cultural relativism.
