In my experience as a child, the darker you are, the more teasing you received from your peers. My older sister, who is light, would always call me names like blackie, etc. For a long time I had a complex about this and believed lighter was prettier. I am proud to say I have overcome this complex and I know now that beauty comes in all shades. Look at Lauryn Hill, who in my opinion is one of the most beautiful women the music industry has ever seen. I have noticed some of my lighter-skinned friends expect to receive more attention in public and sometimes get an attitude when they don’t. I have also noticed that some of them do not consider any dark-skinned woman beautiful. Is this you? If so, maybe that is why you receive this negative feedback.
