Hispanic is a term I had always thought of as a ‘safe’ term to use for someone who is from a Spanish-speaking country. I went to a Mexican web site earlier today, and learned I was mistaken. I don’t think a lot of white people know the difference between Hispanic, Latino, Chicano, etc. I had to go to some trouble to find this information out. So I suggest that you try to not take offense at this. People are most likely not trying to be rude. They are just ignorant.
