Hurricane is loosely based on the premise that a black boxer was put in jail by a racist cop and an all-white jury when in fact he was found guilty by two juries where there were black jurors present. The movie shows an all-white jury, which was false. The ‘racist’ cop was also falsely portrayed as a racist when he was not. One thing the movie never showed: He was never found innocent; he was released on a technicality. What I am saying is that all white people aren’t racist. People get influenced by movies, whether they admit it or not, and by portraying white cops as racist or saying that an all-white jury is bad, trust between blacks and whites is diminished. I believe racism is a generational thing, and if the hate is handed down from the parent, then racism will never go away. I don’t see racism because I refuse to accept it in my life and do not see black or white when making my decisions day to day. I am not naive and realize there are hateful people on both sides and wish they could look at a person’s character rather than the color of their skin.
