Jeannie
I was born and raised in Mississippi. Here in the South, Southern hospitality is THE THING, and when we have visitors we are all about that. But I am now a divorced mother of three. I was once the wife that waited on the husband hand and foot- it wasn’t that I didn’t think he hadn’t enough sense to wait for himself, but the mere fact that I was a wife and mother and those were my duties- to treat the husband like a king, and get no respect in return. My views have now changed. I am about to be married again to a wonderful man. We already meet in the middle about everything. When I go to his house for dinner, he cooks and cleans, etc. When he comes to my house for dinner, i cook and clean, etc. And we have agreed that when two are married- it takes two- it isn’t just one doing all the work. I work and come home and he works and comes home. The chores, including cooking, setting the table etc., will be shared, not waiting on the wife to do it all. But I am glad to have experienced this beforehand because now I know how to really appreciate a man who is willing to actually meet in the middle, not stand on the sidelines and cheer me on for another glass of tea, or a few more trips for this or that for him.
