I think there could be a few reasons why: A lot of older people still have some ‘leftover’ prejudices that were more widely accepted in their day, and some parents don’t want their children to do it because they want to protect them from the inevitable hardships they will have (i.e. others not accepting them, children who don’t know where they ‘fit’, etc.). I think the most common reason, though, is a subtle prejudice that most people have: the idea of ‘I’m not prejudiced, but I don’t want MY daughter bringing home a black man.’ It’s sad that people assume the worst of a race rather than taking people on a case-by-case basis.
